Function in the Junction 2011 – call for donations and volunteers
Your JRA will be hosting our second annual Function in the Junction on April 9th at the West Toronto Masonic Temple, 151 Annette Street.
This year our fundraiser will raise money to help individuals with severe burns, who are in need of custom-made pressure garments. These garments are crucial to the skin’s healing process and the JRA hopes to raise $2500 for a fund to help people with limited funds pay for them.
Your JRA is asking local businesses to donate to our silent auction, and we are looking for other volunteers to help prepare for and run our great event. If you wish to learn more, or you want to donate or volunteer, please contact the JRA at info@junctionra.ca.

Update on the West Toronto Diamond
Below is an update from Go Transit on the West Toronto Diamond project. The pile driving has stopped, but the work is far from over. Here are a few details on this summer’s work; visit http://www.gotransit.com/gts/en/default.aspx for more information.
What we are doing
The pile validation contract involves replacing soil from the pile and filling with concrete; deficient piles will need to be removed and replaced. We will also have to test the capability of the wall to resist water.
Project Schedule
- Pile validation: in progress
- Excavation: summer 2011
- Project complete: spring 2014
How will this impact you?
- Removing and replacing a small percentage of deficient piles using a combination of vibratory hammer and impact hammer. Noise and vibration will be monitored and summarized, with results made available at http://www.gotransit.com/gts.
- The Junction Road/Old Weston Road intersection will remain open until the summer of 2011. We will provide advanced notice of any full road closures.
- Dump trucks will exit the site carrying excess soil using dedicated haul routes to limit the impact on residential streets. Dust and dirt will be controlled by frequent street cleaning and other methods where appropriate.
- Nearby residents may hear the background noise (humming) of a water pump and compressed air systems being used to test that the pile wall is watertight.
- For the foreseeable future, work will occur during regular construction hours from 7 am to 7 pm weekdays. Advance notice will be provided for work on Saturdays when necessary.
